Covent Garden
The London Kensington Forum is an excellent choice of hotel accommodation for visitors to London’s Covent Garden.
Once London’s main fruit and vegetable market, Covent Garden is now one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions, visited by over 30 million people a year. They come for the fashionable boutiques, the theatres, street performers, bars, restaurants and of course, the Royal Opera House.
At the heart of Covent Garden is the Piazza, designed in 1632 by Inigo Jones. In this large, elegant space with its shopping arcades, cafés and arts and crafts you are likely to see, at any time of day, performances by street jugglers, mime artists, rappers or a string quartet.
The London Transport Museum is now housed in the Victorian Flower Market in the South West of the Piazza. Other attractions near the Piazza include the Jubilee Hall with its Monday antiques market; general market from Tuesday to Friday and a busy crafts market at weekends. The Tuscan-style church of St. Paul, known as ‘the Actor’s Church’ is also in the Piazza and the Royal Opera House, home to the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet Companies is linked to the Piazza by Bow Street.
The area is now largely a pedestrian area, closed to traffic; something Covent Garden’s visitors take full advantage of.
Covent Garden is just a short journey from the London Kensington Forum.
