Accommodation near London Museums

Located in the heart of London, the hotel provides the ideal accommodation for visitors interested in experiencing London’s arts and culture.

England’s capital city is a rich mine of arts and culture: classical music and opera, ballet, popular music, festivals, theatre, art and museums.

London’s main orchestras are the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

The principal orchestral music venues are the Royal Festival Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, both in the South Bank Centre; the Barbican Centre and the Albert Hall, which hosts the Promenade Concerts each summer.

The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden is home to the Royal Opera and Royal Ballet Companies. The other main opera and ballet companies are English National Opera and English National Ballet.

Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the Barbican Centre specialise in contemporary dance.

London is famous for its rock scene and most major touring bands visit London. Favourite venues include the Brixton Academy, the London Astoria and the Hammersmith Apollo.

London hosts several festivals and carnivals throughout the year, including the famous Notting Hill Carnival which takes place on the last weekend in August and attracts over a million people.

There are over 36 major theatres in London. The commercial theatres are mostly concentrated in the West End and show serious drama, musicals and comedy. The city’s subsidised theatre includes the National Theatre at the South Bank, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Royal Court Theatre, the Old Vic and the Young Vic. There is also a flourishing fringe theatre scene including venues such as the Battersea Arts centre, the UCL Bloomsbury, The Place and Tricycle Theatre.

The London art scene is enormous; it includes the British National Collection of Western Art to 1900 at the National Gallery, the national collection of post 1900 art at Tate Modern and the national collection of British art at Tate Britain. The National Portrait Gallery’s collection and the Royal Academy temporary exhibitions are both important.

Contemporary art venues include White Cube, the Saatchi Gallery and the ICA.

There are over 240 museums in London. Among the more important are the British Museum (world antiquities), the Victoria and Albert Museum (applied and decorative arts), the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Imperial War Museum, the National Maritime Museum and the Museum of London.

London’s major arts and culture venues are within easy reach of our central London budget hotel, the London Kensington Forum.
